#RiseUpOctober to Stop Police Terror A Call for Rise Up October to Stop Police Terror has gone out – and has been taken up by people of all walks of life – to be in New York October 22-24. Families of those whole lives have been stolen by the police have stepped forward to join this Call. Their powerful stories of what the system has done to them, and their cries for justice – not just in their cases but for what is happening all over this country – need to be heard right in the heart of New York City.
We want to make it possible for no less than 100 families to travel to New York City to be able to put this before the country and the world – to stand with many thousands of others to demand that people take a stand — Which Side Are You On? Do you stand with the people who are being victimized by police terror and murder and who refuse to live in a society like this, or do you stand with those who condone or justify these crimes? These families have made it clear that they want #RiseUpOctober to be very powerful and that they need to be there.
There is a need to bring many thousands to New York City. Many need to be organizing buses and other ways that people from all over the country can get there. This will require a big movement and major fundraising everywhere. As a key part of that, we want to make an appeal for this particular project.
We are calling on every individual, organization or group of individuals to answer this Call and make it possible for all of these families to be in New York City on October 22-24. The travel expenses will vary for different families depending on how far they have to travel and how many of them want to come. Donate $500 or more to bring family members to NYC for #RiseUpOctober; work with people you know to raise more!
Think about it….
If 100 churches each took up the mission of sponsoring one of these families, they would make a major contribution toward this goal, involving many in the congregation to join the nationwide effort to challenge society on this question: Stop Police Terror! Which Side Are You On?
If hearing about this moved some prominent voices to take up this challenge and raise money for this, that could not only go a long way to fulfill this need, but would also help make this known in the media and reach society on a much bigger scale.
If students hearing the stories of these Stolen Lives and the need to make #RiseUpOctober a powerful manifestation were to organize events on their campuses where these families could speak and call on people to be part of this, the possibility will open up for thousands of students to lend support to these families, and they will feel challenged and inspired to be in NYC with them.
The voices of these families and the call to bring them to New York City need to be taken immediately to all those who can be challenged to step in and make this happen. Will you show what side you're on by donating now?
