To Queens County NY District Attorney Richard A. Brown:
We the undersigned urge the Queen District Attorney to drop charges of Obstructing Government Administration and Disorderly Conduct against Clark Kissinger, case #2015QN053342 & Miles Solay, 2015QN053343.
These men participated in a peaceful, non-violent protest on October 23, 2015, near the entrance to NYC's jail at Rikers Island. The demand of the protest was “Shut Down Rikers” based on at least 15 prisoner deaths precipitated there by medical neglect; hundreds of guard-inflicted injuries of prisoners; and repeated lawsuits settled by the City of New York over prisoner abuse.
On December 15, 14 others arrested at the same time were given a 24 hour Adjournment in Contemplation of Dismissal, or in some cases were not prosecuted.
A scheduled trial on July 12 should instead be a hearing where the prosecutors announce that no charges will be pursued on these two men.
