Houston SMIN meeting

The next meeting of the
Stop Mass Incarceration Network/HtownChapter:
Sunday, March 13th, 6:00-7:30pm
2501 Holman St., Project Row Houses,
Houston, TX 77004

Regional Conferences were held at the beginning of the year, and plans made for the next period. A lot of it focuses on the importance of mobilizing the youth on campuses, including a Stolen Lives Families Tour that has already spoken at several campuses.

Powerful events took place last week in Chicago, which has become a concentration point of the struggle against police terror, including a powerful, and hard-fought battle to hold a Stolen Lives action inside the Illinois State Office Building [see coverage of the events at www.revcom.us].

more people have been killed by police in the Houston area in recent years than NYC and LA. Only Chicago beat Houston in the number of murders by police.  However, there hasn't been the same level of struggle here as in those other cities and that poses a challenge to us here.

Janet Baker continues to struggle for justice for her son, Jordan, who was murdered 2 years ago. And Ishtyme Robinson organized actions this past weekend demanding Justice for Ahjah Dixon, her daughter who died in police custody in Corsicana, TX in 2010. There will be more details on those actions by the next meeting. Both of these strong women were part of the RiseUpOcotber actions in NYC. As more terror by the police keeps coming down, there is a a real need for us to step up our activity here.
