Plans From Regional Stop Mass Incarceration Network

The Regional Stop Mass Incarceration Conference (SMIN) brought together 80 people including  SMIN activists, Stolen Lives Families, Revolution Clubs, community activists, and many others to make plans and get organized to Stop Police Terror. People came from Madison, Wi, Florida, Cleveland, Detroit, St Louis, Waukegan, IL  and Chicago.

There were twenty family members of loved ones killed by police, six from Chicago and fourteen from the other cities.  They gave a powerful and moving picture at the beginning of the conference of the human loss and devastation caused by police murder and a living testimony that these are not “isolated incidents”.  They gave a strong voice to why POLICE MURDER MUST STOP and that it will take nationwide determined resistance among broad sections of the people to stop it.

Carl Dix, co initiator of Stop Mass Incarceration Network and spokesperson for the Revolutionary Communist Party, was the key note speaker. Listen to his speech here. He put forward the national plans for No More Stolen Lives tours on campuses and a National Student Strike against Police Terror in April.  He called on everyone to be part of this movement,“There is a place for everyone in this fight against police terror: religious people and atheists, communists and nationalists, young and old...The only test is DO YOU WANT TO SEE POLICE MURDER END?”

WHAT WAS ACCOMPLISHED. Plans forged at Conference Making it Real

“No More Stolen Lives” Campus Tour: Stolen Lives families are people whose loved ones have been murdered by police. The message of this tour is the way police are killing 100’s of people every year and the way the whole system works to exonerate these killer cops is illegitimate and unacceptable – This horror must be stopped! The focus of this tour is to take the message Police Terror Must Be STOPPED and the challenge, Which Side Are You On? to college campuses.

Chicago Tour: We need students to set up speaking engagements focused at colleges for Stolen lives families along with students and activists at Loyola, DePaul, Chicago State University, Columbia College, Northern Illinois U, NEIU (including the Center for  Inner City Studies),and the University of Chicago.

Midwest Tours: A workshop brought together people from the Midwest, including many Stolen Lives families who volunteered to speak on the tour, to identify key campuses, and ideas for outreach to students. A regional conference call will work on concrete plans this week as part of developing the organization of Stop Mass Incarceration Network in mid-west cities and campuses.

Fundraising for the Midwest Tour: A plan was made for an online campaign to raise funds specifically for the Midwest Tour, to reach out very broadly with what this tour is about and what the money will specifically fund, such as travel expenses for speakers and materials. People also shared experiences with local fundraising projects. .

National Student Strike to STOP POLICE MURDER in April.
The National Student Strike needs a date set and a call that says this is a national student strike to STOP POLICE TERROR. Students need to be mobilized to make a broad call about why this is an urgent situation and why students can and need to play a powerful role in society. This is needed to spread broadly now.
